Aerospace applications demand optimized performance from lightweight materials. Emerging lightweight materials, such as aluminum-lithium and magnesium, have the potential to dramatically improve fuel efficiency and performance. These new materials suffer from corrosion when exposed to harsh but realistic conditions such as salt water.

Rose Roy, a materials engineer at Xtalic, will present new research on nanostructured aluminum alloys that Xtalic has developed to address these corrosion concerns. NanoX-Al are novel alloys that combat corrosion by using Dynamic Nanostructure Controlled™ that remains lightweight, but have superior corrosion performance. During her talk, Rose will show how Xtalic coatings survive and outperform traditional aluminum alloys when exposed to corrosive salt spray conditions.
