Electroplating Applications Engineer
Xtalic Corporation, a rapidly growing Boston-area venture-funded start-up company, is seeking applications for a full-time applications engineer position. We are seeking candidates with experience in the electroplating and/or surface finishing industry, and a specialty in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science.
This position will support Xtalic’s commercialization of innovative new processes based on MIT-developed nanotechnology. Our proprietary process allows the properties of metal coatings to be customized for a wide variety of applications. The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Performing guided applications development work, including laboratory investigations, pilot-scale plating, and customer support
- Evaluating the metallurgy, mechanical performance, corrosion performance, and electrical properties of metal coatings
- Operation and troubleshooting of chemical processing equipment, in particular electroplating baths
- Providing chemical analysis/maintenance of electroplating solutions
Required experience, background and skills:
- BS or higher degree in a relevant technical field
- 3 years of experience in electroplating/surface finishing, or a closely-related industry
- Working knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory techniques
- Experience with some combination of the following chemical and metallurgical analytical techniques/equipment: titrations, UV-Vis, atomic absorption, potentiometry, HPLC, microhardness measurement, Taber testing, XRF, SEM and EDS
- Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and carefully document work
- Previous experience in the commercialization of electrochemical processes, from the bench-scale to the industrial-scale
- Previous experience providing a technical customer interface during applications development
- In-depth knowledge of electrochemistry, in particularly experience working with a potentiostat for electrochemical investigation
